Making the invisible visible
My sculptures are made from industrial polyethylene blocks destined for recycling . As the plastic cools, in its singular way, it creates a mix of colours and unique effects.
With their generous and voluptuous shapes, the blocks call to me and invite me to extrapolation. I question their forms and seek to integrate them into a larger whole. Once selected and staged, the blocks become artblocks.
By manipulating or cutting them, familiar images impose themselves on me – the phenomenon of pareidolia is at work. But I can also dream of an extension to the material, as in the “Mirage” series. Or associate the blocks in cairns, imagine them attached... The “Rorschach revisited” series invites the viewer to find their own interpretation.
